The Morning After: March 5, 2009

By GatorTrey

tmalogoNow I know it’s JUST the WCC, and the Horizon, and the Ohio Valley, the Patriot, the Big South, the Sun Belt, and the Atlantic Sun…but this just means the beginning of the Madness. I think small conference tourneys are great TV…win and you’re in…lose and your out. Is it a just and fair way to determine who goes to the dance? Not always, but it sure makes it fun.

Since most of these tourneys are played on the #1 seed’s home court it’s usually the biggest game they’ve seen on campus all year. These small universities pack the gym tight and go ape poo after every play. I got to experience some of it when I was in Dayton and the play-in game came to town. More on that in the future…

Yesterday was the NHL trade deadline and thousands of deals went through…The biggest move of the day goes to the Calgary Flames for acquiring Olli Jokinenand the Pittsburgh Penguins who received Bill Guerin from the Islanders…while the Coyotes tried saving money by trading their team for 10 maple bats.

In case you haven’t heard…TO was released we’ve spent enough time on that. If you really want more coverage I’m sure the fellers at ESPN can help you.

Kurt Warner does the smart thing, and resigns with the Arizona Cardinals. Seriously, why would you leave the talent of that team for the crap talent in the Bay area? Now I’m sure it was merely to push the Cards, but still, I wouldn’t take him seriously if I were the Cards…While this was happening the Cards gladly released Edgerin James, who has been about as effective as a band aid on a festering wound.

The Bengals have found a replacementfor TJ Houshmandzadeh…Now if they could just find a replacement for Marvin Lewis.

After weeks of speculation, analysis, and inside info on why he’s leaving the Ravens and who he’ll sign with, Ray Lewis has resigned with the Ravens.

This may be the best website I’ve seen in quite some time.

The Sox wasted no time getting injured, as Brad Penny and JD Drew hit the training table.

Don’t forget to sign up for March Madness on Demand. I’m already amped. As for me, I’ll have a friend in town those days (Monday’s baseball preview DC) should be fun.

The University of Maryland may suck at basketball, but their fans are sure good at being in on a joke:

Iverson is out two weeks. Expect the Pistons to go undefeated…The Spurs might sign Drew Gooden…which will one up the Cavs in the let’s sign a draft bust big man for the playoff stretch sweepstakes…And not shockingly, Cuban wants changes or else. How about this Mark, tell your 7 foot German to start playing like he’s not scared of bruising.

TrueHoop/ESPN did a great piece on traveling in the NBA. Which is about 50% of Lebron James’ game.

Shaq has decided to try and piss the people in Orlando off again. This time it’s laying into Stan Van Gundy. Shaq…it was a flop, don’t save face.

Think your life sucks?! These people don’t!

Finally, just another reason The University of Florida rules.go gators. (even if we have a mediocre basketball team)
