About The Author

Guyinthecorner is an author here at spartyandfriends.com. He writes the NBA section, X-Games section, and contributes to College Basketball and MLB. He doesn’t watch hockey except when the circumstances are dire. He’s not sure how to rate Michael Phelps on the scale of athletes not only because he doesn’t directly compete against people, but because he is a fish. He doesn’t understand the hate for the 2002 National Champion Maryland Terrapins and wishes everybody would just shut up by now. He is known for having statistical formulas and might be Bill James or Joe Lunardi depending on who you ask. His identity is as hidden as many times over as the number of internet memes he employs in his comments. Some have called him “The Riddler.” He can be reached at gitc@spartyandfriends.com. “GITC” is an acronym for guyinthecorner in case you aren’t that perceptive.

    Sorry for the threadjack but I have an important Big East question. I just bought tickets for both sessions next Wednesday. I am only interested in the session where Syracuse plays. I definitely won’t go during the day if they play at night. However, we could possibly just hang out in the city and then catch the night games if we are already there.

    Anyhow, I am trying to figure out if the schedule is based strictly on seed or does ESPN set the times based upon what they figure will generate better ratings? I did a quick search and couldn’t find out. Seems like the times each seed plays are not set yet.  (Quote)

    That is a great question cycledan. What time you picking me up?  (Quote)

    …and that has to be the weakest Studs list of the season.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

    john- i am on a mission to prove to the world that the Studs list is not just made by some secret formula based only on stats.  (Quote)

  • john says:

    Rashard couldn’t beat out a guy that only took 7 shots. That’s sad.  (Quote)

    Once before the season ends I’d like to see GITC put together S&Ds without using his extremely bias formula. …although I’m not sure if he could do it without having a nervous breakdown.  (Quote)

    I reserve the white out for only the star of the Championship team. Charlie Bell? Really?  (Quote)

    john-

    I could do it without the program but the formula goes through my mind in about 2-3 seconds now for a single stat line.  (Quote)

    gitc, i thought you did that because he was on your FBB roster last night  (Quote)

  • guyinthecorner says:

    And its hard to put value on the stat line of every NBA player who plays in a single night on average, much less on nights when there are 15 games and you have about 375 stat lines.  (Quote)

    i picture gitc looking at a box score and having a flash like Chuck that gives him the lists  (Quote)

    sae-

    Great call by you. He actually was my pickup for last night and flat out screwed me. Look at that stat line! He was actually the Dud of the Day by a long shot.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

    gitc-

    he was the one that stepped up after Teddy Dupay tried to rape Mateen Cleaves.  (Quote)

  • guyinthecorner says:

    It’s more like a score of auxiliary stats vs. negative stats applied to points. So I can get the auxiliary number by looking through rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks and then compare it to the turnovers, and missed shots and get a number like +4 and add it to the guy’s points. It really isn’t that difficult.

    Duds are way harder because of the application of minutes.  (Quote)

  • guyinthecorner says:

    That was a very simplified version, but the basic idea, I guess.  (Quote)

    @Sparty,

    Cleaves = flopper…

    What a wuss.  (Quote)

    and the paul pierce -10 modifier  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

    I think Dupay’s following criminal history is more than enough to win this argument for me. don’t ya think so, lawya?  (Quote)
