The Morning After: March 3, 2009

By sparty

The Morning AfterDo you know what happened 18 years ago today?  One of the most famous home made video’s was created.  It is probably the most recognizable grainy footage in the history of history.

The video was shot by George Holliday in the streets of Los Angeles, CA, and it showed members of the LAPD beating Rodney King, who had been pulled over for reckless driving, and driving under the influence.  The brutality of this video still resonates today. Was that too grim of an opening? I got the idea from Miz. Usually he does this day in history openings, so I decided to follow that lead.

Whosyomomma completely over estimated his value, and is heading to the pacific northwest to continue his career.

Is there any chance that there can be a probe on on FanHouse and their hiring of Jay Mariotti?

After searching 16,000 square miles, the US Coast Guard found 1 survivor from the boat that was also carrying two NFL football palyers.

Kerry Collins actully has a half-way decent receiver to throw the ball to.  He was Big D’s pick to be Super Bowl MVP.

Here is some more Jerry Reese awesomeness.

The NBA has temporarily scrapped the KryptoNate T-Shirt, but could be looking to do business with DC Comics in the future.  One could say that DC are being jerks, but hey man, they created it.

Allen Iverson to miss at least one more game. Take your time, bud.

We got issues with Gunaxin’s list of top Cartoons of the 80s.  No way should anything be in front of GI Joe or Transformers.

Total Pro Sports is already on his 4th Mock Draft. I am still waiting for Mayock’s 1st.  I am totally with him on Kenny Britt if there is no Plax next year.

Eddie George is going to be getting his own show on the Big Ten Network

Another former tO$U running back, Maurice Clarett: Blogging from Jail.

Win $77k, dry hump an ape.  All in a day’s work.

Just in case you were wondering, here is your Fulmer Cupdate.

I can’t take that cartoon list seriously. GI Joe at #7?!?! Voltron ahead of Transformers? That’s just wrong.

  • knightwhosaysni says:

Well, pretty much just as busy as usual. The craziness is because one day the power went out, another day my phone wouldn’t work and I totalled my car a couple weeks ago. So it’s been interesting.

    Duck Tales? Freakin Duck Tales?

  • Johnny says:

Hey now Duck tales was freaking awesome

I’m a little bit bummed that muppet babies didn’t make the list

    (Quote)

  • john says:

I don’t have a problem with Duck Tales on the list. Duck Tales and the Gummi Bears were the two best Disney cartoons of the 80’s.

…and now that I think of it, how the hell did The Smurfs not make the list?

    (Quote)

  • sparty says:

Smurfs should definitely be on that list.

Voltran is a bad choice. I don’t think many kids actually watched it.

    (Quote)

  • HawkEye19 says:

Duck Tales is a little high. I remember playing the Nintendo game, though.

I know when Voltron was on, ever boy in my class was watching it. THe Lion one, not the Land, Sea and Air team one.

i remember watching voltron, and i’d bet my brother has it on dvd if it is on dvd

and where are scooby doo and the honeymooners flintstones?

    (Quote)

  • john says:

Scooby Doo and the Flintstones were pre-80’s.

    Paul Pierce > Voltron

My housemates in college would get home every day from class and watch Duck Tales. I am not sure why. Probably for the same reason they tried to watch CHUD – Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers every time it came on cable for the whole month.
They also watched He Man and I think we had some He-Man toy that one of my housemates either bought or stole. I didn’t quite get it but kind of funny. I need to forward them the list above.

Back to sports. Good to see Chin Ming Wang back to form again. I like the Yanks starting rotation much better this year. Hughes is a 6th starter, Kennedy back in the minors, kind of how it should be. Interesting battle for center field for the Yanks between Melky and Swisher. He had an amazing catch in the outfield yesterday as well.

Santana’s status has to really scare Mets fans. Without Santana, they don’t make the playoffs.

Good to see that Clarett is using his “free” time wisely and is starting to mature (hopefully). Too bad he didn’t listen to the positive people around him who tried to guide him in the right direction and he thought he knew everything.

I will definitely watch Eddie George’s show. I am a Big 10 homer and Eddie is my favorite Buckeye evAR. Hell, I was watching the Big 10 chick’s swimming! My friend is the coach at tOSU, so I was really just trying to find him on the side.

AND, that cartoon list blows. Where are the Smurfs and Muppet Babies!? This list was obviously compiled by a guy. I only watched He-Man when I babysat two boys. Inspector Gadget was awesome. I did like that one.

I hope to hell that the Giants don’t draft Britt…too much conflict in wanting him to do well and wanting him to utterly fail.

That cartoon list sucks…GI Joe is #1 for me…Muppet Babies and Smurfs should be in there…Duck Tales was awesome, but should be a lower…never watched Voltron.

    Happy b-day mikey!
