The Morning After: Februray 15, 2009

By patphish

tma-weekendGood Morning. We are one week closer to the best month of the year, but I’ll spare you another rant about how much February sucks. The weather here in South Florida is insanely good right now, I will spend much of today outside playing in the dirt. Outside of watching a bunch of “athlete’s” make 800 left turns, there really is nothing on today. A little golf? A display of over paid, over tall guys playing a game with no defense, just like every other regular season game they play? No thanks, I’m good. I’ll go out plant some stuff, machette some stuff, and kill some stuff.Looks like the bleach effected his brain. What a douche.

If you have kids, tell them about this man, he’s quite possibly the greatest example of class you can find. What a shame his record was broken by such a douchebag.

Uh-oh pinstripe fans, Rosenthal usually know his stuff, he is not a douche.

Little dude has some ups! But if Yoda knocked on my door and asked me to show him the best male human specimen, I would say “Dwight Howard, him it is.” Ghey but true.

Wow, this is like losing to Maryland Rutgers.

The fighting rednecks Miz’s have a solid victory.

My weekly h/t goes once again to loyal commenter jpmanahan for this gem: wow.  insane. Yes my friend, he is that good. Big Monday will showcase the 2 best teams in the land this week, the FNCUH vs Pitt.

* ? Not a baseball link.

More proof you really are just rooting for the jersey.

No way Jose! Again, not a baseball link.

First Tim Redding. Then Freddy Garcia, Now this guy? Pedro better be done………………

Just because: Craigslist rules

Have a good day and thanks in advance to all those that will call BS on any of the above drivel.

I think Tom Chambers juiced up based on his ability to slam dunk from the 3pt line.

Lebron could easily dunk on 13 feet. The record I believe is 12″7 by Clyde Drexler in an outdoor dunk contest in Portland’s arena parking lot in 1987. He stopped there because the landing got dangerous. The fact that we will get LeBron in the contest next year is crazy. He will not lose.  (Quote)

Howard could easily do 13 feet too. That was way too easy for him last night. He should have saved that for the end. The free throw line dunk was weak.  (Quote)

I should have just written this and gone to bed.  (Quote)

Lebron might be able to go high school 3 point line. Or foul line through the legs. He is rumored to be able to grab two balls (1 in each hand) and throw himself 2 alley oops to the opposite hands off the glass and dunk them both. There is of course the top of the backboard dunk…

The possibilities are endless for his athleticism.  (Quote)

I have Bulls Lakers 1991, so it must be that one. I should break out my sega system, just for fun.  (Quote)

I don’t know if LBJ would win, but would definitely be more entertaining. Since it’s a contract year, maybe he is just showing off.  (Quote)

Lebron might be able to go high school 3 point line.

I don’t care if it’s a high school 3 point line or not, no one will ever be able to dunk from that far back. Hell, no one can dunk from “behind” the free throw line now.

I’m hoping Lebron agreeing to be in next year’s dunk contest, will inspire some other big names (Kobe) to think about entering.  (Quote)

…and I loved how Kenny and Reggie were making fun of Rudy Fernandez for switching to the Martin jersey, having no idea who he was and then having to back track and say what a nice honor it was. Good research guys.  (Quote)

  • guyinthecorner says:

    John-

Guys can go behind the foul line. James “the Flight” White did a through the legs from behind the line in college. He went behind the line in the NBDL contest on Friday as well.

From foul line to front rim is 13 feet. From high school 3 point line to from of rim is 19 feet. It seems impossible but the world long jump record is 29″4.5 so think of it that way. How far does somebody have to jump to still be high enough to reach the rim when 19 feet from starting point?

After watching a few videos of James White (like his two hand windmill from behind the line), I think that the farthest I’ve seen somebody’s foot come down is about half way between the back board and the baseline. That’s four feet past front rim. Add on the fact that long jumpers stick their legs out and land on their butt for an extra foot and that means that those guys (dunking from the line) are probably jumping a long jump distance of about 18 feet.

LeBron would need an extra 6 feet in distance and therefore about 2 feet of height. That’s 26 feet. That doesn’t take into account that he’s taller and longer than the others and could most likely dunk with about a foot less of height. Let’s say 25 feet then.

In the last Olympics, the worst long jumper who actually jumped successfully had a length of 24″9. Saying that LeBron could go high school 3 point line is saying that he is jump barely better than the worst Olympic long jumper.

Is that crazy? I say… no.  (Quote)

  • john says:

It is crazy. Give an Olympic long jumper basketball sneakers and a limited runway and they won’t be able to do it. Plus when you’re jumping from that far back, it’s almost impossible to keep a straight line to the rim.

I’m all for allowing James White in next year’s dunk contest though, even if he’s not on an actual NBA roster.  (Quote)

    NFW GITC.

I was at UF with James White. He’s skinny and built to jump those distances. Lebron can jump high, but not that far.  (Quote)

I hate this particular Penguin team. There’s no way a team with Malkin and Crosby should miss the playoffs and that’s exactly what this team is going to do. Last night was a disgrace. Toronto is not anywhere near good and to blow a 2 goal lead and lose 6-2 to that particular team while fighting for your playoff lives is just flat out unacceptable. I’m so glad that I don’t live in Pittsburgh nor splurged for the center ice package to watch this team play
