I have not had a cigarette in a little more than 5 years.  I had a terrible habit.  I would definitely smoke at least 1 pack a day, and almost two packs when the Giants were on TV when I was still living in Floriduh.

At the time, I was paying anywhere between $3-$4 a pack for Marlboro’s.  I tried not to buy a carton, because then I always had in the back of my mind that I could finish up the pack I was on, because there were more in the house.  I picked  up my cigs at the Mobil every morning before hopping on Glades Rd in Boca Raton.  I was spending roughly $1300.00 a year on a habit that was slowly killing me.   Anyway, I thought I was saving a ton of money when I quit smoking.

Now imagine you have the same habit as a New York resident.  There is a proposed tax on cigarettes that could push the total to $10.00 a pack.  That would equate to $3650.00 for someone with at least pack-a-day habit.   That is enough money to pay for your Verizon FiOS bill, water and heat.

I wonder how many of the people that smoke in New York had their homes foreclosed…?
