Yeah, we are just another blog that is going to talk about the same damn topic as the other blogs out there today.
There are historic rivalries in sports: Yankees/Sox, Michigan/tO$U football, Army/Navy, Lakers/Celtics, and the Manning Brothers/Williams Sisters. However, most will tell you that the most intense rivalry in all of sports is Duke/UNC basketball.
Even though they may respect one another, they hate one another as well. Does not matter if the schools are both Top 5, if one is struggling, or if both are, this game matters so much more than any regular season game these kids will ever play in.
At least, that is what I hear. Personally, I think the Yankees/Sox is a bigger rivalry, since it goes all the way back to a trade revolving around the greatest player ever.
Nonetheless, it is still an intriguing rivalry. But does it matter to everyone like it does to this guy? I myself will watch some of the game, but probably with the sound off.
Before you give us your opinion, let’s see what the author’s here have to say.
Mizerle06: “Do I care? Yes I care. I care about the fact that this game will most likely be passionate and intense from the coaches to the players to the fans. I also care about how over-hyped it will be because both teams are ranked in the top 6 of each poll and neither are making it past the Elite Eight.”
GatorTrey: “Duke/UNC is great. I love a good rivalry.” (Sparty Note: Thanks for nothing)
Patphish: “I will be eating a late dinner tonight, right around 9 o’clock after I get done watching the FNCUH beat the snot of Syracuse in Gampel Pavilion. There is nothing worth watching between the end of the game and 10 o’clock when Damages comes on.
They played Monday, UNC 75 Duke 60. GITC, where was the recap?”
GITC: “One of the most storied rivalries in all of sports puts another chapter in the book tonight. In this chapter, the athletes of UNC run over the non-athletic guys of Duke. Duke tries to come back using their three point shooting but can’t find the net. UNC takes it on the road, 102-84.”
Big D: “NC is good. Dook eeees better. Crazies get loud. Duke holds serve at home. 96-88″
Marcomarco: sleep, i need sleep!
Mikey: “After watching speedo guy, I want no part of this rivalry.”
There you have it, from the experts on all things to do with your life. What do you think?

Love this rivalry but I’m biased as a Carolina fan.
Time to whore the blog, if you want a preview click on my name.
(Quote)
it’s definitely a great rivalry. is it me, or does it not seem to be getting the normal hype?
(Quote)
I’d agree Sparty but lots of news has been breaking this week.
I think the second game in Carolina, on the weekend, will get more hype.
(Quote)
That’s because the hype machine has been focused on A-Rod.
(Quote)
My answer leaves the reader with a lot to think about.
(Quote)
I was expecting more venom towards Duke from GITC.
(Quote)
i love the college rivalry. but this does not hold a candle to the biggest collegiate rivalry in my motherland.
and yes, i am pro-Carolina.
(Quote)
Hating on Duke is so stupid. What’s next? A rant about the media coverage of the Sox or Yankees? So fresh.
(Quote)
And yes, it’s a great rivalry, no matter what the year. It does seem like there is less hype this time, though. Probably thanks to A-Rod.
(Quote)
I meant to say neither are making it into the Elite Eight.
(Quote)
Miz, I’d take that bet for Carolina.
(Quote)
they’ll both flame out, cbh. you should be careful proposing bets with me…I have a history.
(Quote)
i dislike dook, i really wish someone would write a complete breakdown of dook hatred. mine started with laetnerd and the fact that coach k seems like such a prick during games
i pretty much nothing NC
(Quote)
Yeah, I also should probably be careful based on my history of losing bets all of the time.
I won’t bet, but I definitely think Carolina makes the Final Four.
(Quote)
as long as they are in the right regions, UNC/UCONN for the title.
(Quote)
Not picking your Spartans?
(Quote)
I almost thought this was going to be the infamous “I Hate duke” post
(Quote)
well, obviously i will be rooting for them, but they are not as good as those two teams. we would need them to not be at their best, and we would need to be flawless to beat them.
(Quote)
miz-
UNC not making the Elite Eight?
/Miz is a crack addict
(Quote)
I think UNC will and can go far in the tourny, but Duke is not a great team at all.
(Quote)
Dook Sucks.
(Quote)
I wouldn’t bank on UNC in the elite 8. A good defensive team can shut them down.
(Quote)
If they get bounced before the Final Four I will want to kill Roy.
(Quote)
I have an 11 year streak at picking the NCAA Champion before the tourney starts and I’m considering UNC.
(Quote)
kill roy?
(Quote)
Hokey smokes! NO ONE had Florida in 2006. And if you did you were on crack.
(Quote)
Really? I thought Florida was one of the easier picks. The one people find incredible is my Syracuse pick in 2003. They were a 5 seed I think. Wasn’t Florida only a 3 seed that season? That’s not that hard to predict. I trusted in Brewer coming up big and I liked their draw except the UConn game in the Final Four. I thought that UConn might flame out (although I didn’t see it being Mason).
(Quote)
there is no way you picked Florida. i guess you had George Mason in the Final 4 as well?
(Quote)
I dunno…
(Quote)
Syracuse was a dark horse pick by a lot of people in 2003 because they started so quickly that year and had the best player in college basketball. I am calling complete and total BS.
(Quote)
I’m surprised you didn’t have Duke winning the year they lost to UCONN in the final.
(Quote)
I was close to having a 14 year streak but I had Kentucky repeating in 1997 when they were upset by Arizona.
(Quote)
oh, and you had UConn over Duke in 1999? whatever.
(Quote)
Sparty, I went to school there and didn’t even have GMU in the Final Four. A lot of Mason girls did really well in their pools that year.
(Quote)
cbh-
As stated (although not in a really long post or anything) I hate Duke. I only picked them in 2001 because I thought it was the only possible outcome.
(Quote)
i bet you predicted the world series winner in 1994 too.
(Quote)
sparty-
Wasn’t UConn a #1 seed? How is that unbelievable?
(Quote)
everyone took Duke in 99, except for Patphish.
(Quote)
I’ve picked the winner 15 years in a row.
/see how easy that is?
(Quote)
I had Tennessee in ‘99.
(Quote)
I would have had a streak of 15 straight years picking the winner except that I’ve missed on my pick approximately 15 of those attempts.
(Quote)
Liar.
That’s all I got.
(Quote)
patphish-
Miz wasn’t lying, it’s called sarcasm. You apologize now.
(Quote)
As bad a homer as you are, and the depth of knowledge you have (more NBA than CBB, btw\, the 11 in a row line of crap removes all crediblity from anything you say going forward.
(Quote)
I can’t wait to track if GITC gets the winner right this year.
(Quote)
The strange thing about my streak is how bad I am at the rest of the tourney. I’m good at catching the mid major upsets because I follow them, but I never have a good final four or elite eight. I think I’ve only had 3 of the 4 right maybe 3 times or so and I know the best I’ve ever done in the round of 8 was having 6 one time. My brother always asks me who will win the tourney, takes my pick, and then does better on the overall tournament.
I’ve never won a pool of any kind because of my crappy middle round performances.
(Quote)
I always try and think of who will win based on winning 6 in a row against good teams. That means no teams with one dominant big man (see: this year’s Pitt) or a team that relies on outside shooting (see: this year’s Duke). Those teams have no chance because in one of their six games they will have that one guy get in foul trouble or their shots won’t fall.
(Quote)
I have never been wrong on the Final Four opponents.
/that was easy.
(Quote)
wow. talk about bravado…
