This is just another reason as to why sports suck in February. The headlines always take precedence over the actual games. The biggest stories have been Michael Phelps smoking pot, Joe Torre’s book, and A-Rod admitting to past use of PEDs.
Alex Rodríguez has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs. Now let’s move on.
Michigan State plays at Michigan tonight (still no Raymar Morgan). Besides Pitt and the FNCUH, the best teams in the Big East are Villanova and Marquette and they match-up tonight. Did you even know that it was Duke/UNC week? Biggest rivalry in sports my ass.
Something tells me that Dana Stubblefield would have been a bigger story this past weekend had another certain story not broke. The NFL continues to skate by. Hmmm, sounds like an idea for a post.
Pacman, we hardly knew ya.
The Giants said goodbye to Sam Madison, Reuban Droughns and Sammy Knight. I toally forgot that Knight was even on the team. Madison had a couple nice years with the team, and took on the role as tutor to Corey Webster and Aaron Ross. Oh, and David Carr gets to continue to be Eli’s backup.
The Lions made some cuts of their own, getting rid of Leigh Bodden and Dwight Smith. There is a lot more fat to cut in Detroit.
The Ravens want to keep Ray Lewis around, and they are willing to pay him.
Julius Peppers will probably be playing somewhere else next season. Is it me, or is Peppers an extremely overrated player?
That’s your NFL news in February.
I hate running, so I ask, why?
The Minnesota Timberwovles are not a good team, and now they just lost the only good thing that they had going. Al Jefferson is out for the remainder of the year with an ACL tear. That deal with Boston just keeps looking better and better.
The Pistons were one of the best 4th quarter teams for years. Not so much anymore. Allen Iverson is driving me nuts. When he was putting up 30-35 ppg in Philly, that probably kept the fans at bay. I can’t stand his crappy play.
Ichiro, the pitcher?
Manny still doesn’t have a contract, and he is running out of options.
Tom Crean is not going to put up with anything in Indiana. He suspended Devan Dumes indefinitely for his elbow flinging in East Lansing.
Judgment Day is coming. Cue the Terminator theme song.
TWTWCBB makes a return later today, so stay tuned for the next installment of the Big Ten > Big East > ACC.

Your keep it classy Orlando link isn’t working
(Quote)
was this the same guy that said I’d have a flying car by 2000?
(Quote)
worked ok for me…
(Quote)
Not enough ARod, SportsCenter opened with 25 minutes of ARod.
Really…I’m over it.
(Quote)
Re: Keep it classy Orlando – and I’m not finding the sexist aspect to what he said. his comments were no different than someone saying “you can call that a walk in college but not in the NBA.” I think it’s a byproduct of February where we reach for controversy and overreact to anything reasonably controversial.
(Quote)
never heard of him, trey.
(Quote)
I heard something this past weekend about the MLB Player’s Union contemplating their own spring training for all of the free agents that have yet to sign. anybody heard anything more on that? P&C’s in just a couple days, right?
(Quote)
look at miz try to talk about baseball.
(Quote)
I appreciate you pointing out and forever immortalizing my shortcomings to all on these internets. I was just trying to fit in with the cool beisbol kids.
*sniffs, wipes tear*
(Quote)
Wouldn’t shock me Miz. Dodgertown is trying to find a way to attract something after those bastards from LA tiok years of tradition and history and moved it to Arizona.
(Quote)
30 O5 35 minutes of SportsCenter has been ARod…
Why did I get this morning to go in late?
(Quote)
trey, there should be a Save By The Bell or Dawson’s Creek rerun on somewhere. that should be an equal substitute.
(Quote)
I’ve heard a few mentions of a FA tryout camp.
(Quote)
How are we supposed to know what Favre is thinking and what is going on with the Cowboys if all Sportscenter covers is A-Rod?!?!
(Quote)
I’ve spent most my time on Morning Joe, but just flipping to SC every few minutes…still ARod. And that isn’t a lie.
(Quote)
good questions, john. personally, I’ve been wondering what’s going on with Kobe and Lebron this morning but I can’t find anything.
(Quote)
never heard of this Morning Joe character. who names their kid “Morning” anyway?
(Quote)
Ah 35 minute interview…that’s why…
(Quote)
It feeds my political passion.
/political passion’d
(Quote)
It’s freakin’ snowing in AZ?!?! Didn’t think I’d ever see that one…at least I’ve got a delayed opening to go into work now…that calls for more sleep.
(Quote)
just to clarify, this political passion you speak of is wholly different from how Willy Clinton or Larry Craig would define it, right?
(Quote)
Shit. Morning Joe is interviewing Gammons.
I can’t escape it…Time to get dressed…
(Quote)
Hmm…apparently SI has a special edition of its magazine out today and it has nothing to do with A-Rod.
(Quote)
I wonder how much ARod was paid by ESPN for that interview.
(Quote)
You really think ESPN paid him?
(Quote)
One thing was very clear from that interview. A-Rod does NOT care for Selena Roberts.
(Quote)
Probably.
(Quote)
TMS – you’re not kidding! his face would turn an enraged red when he would talk about her.
(Quote)
I kind of figure A-Rod’s interview options were limited on short notice and he felt Gammons would be the easiest on him, so that’s why he chose him.
(Quote)
as much as Gammons homerism gets on my nerves, who would have been better? Olney? Kurkjian? Kruk?
(Quote)
ARod’s interview options were wide open yesterday. there’s nobody on the planet that wouldn’t have dropped what they were doing to spend 35 minutes grilling the guy. I heard Al Jazeera even requested an interview. he chose ESPN because SI broke the story. had ESPN broken it, SI would have been the interviewer.
(Quote)
Buster Olney wrote pretty much then same thing about Manny and the Dodgers last week
(Quote)
If I had to pick an ESPN guy, I probably would have gone with Bob Ley or Jermey Schaap. Schaap would have made A-Rod squirm more than Gammons did.
…or maybe he could have just done the interview on a podcast with Simmons.
(Quote)
I wish Gammons had asked him something like “If I told you that you would be exonnerated of your steroid use by having all of your stats from those three years you say you used while in Texas wiped cleanly from the books, would you be accepting to those terms?”
(Quote)
I wish Gammons would have pressed him when he said he
misremembereddidn’t remember what it was that he took.(Quote)
Emmitt Smith should have interviewed A-Rod.
(Quote)
I haven’t seen or heard any post interview comments from Gammons. Did he say he believed A-Rod?
(Quote)
I think that would have caused my TV to explode.
(Quote)
Big East >>>>>>>>>>>> ACC
Cal was overrated
Lebron >>>>>>>>> Kobe
Miz is a redneck
/Arod subject changed
(Quote)
agreed, patphish.
(Quote)
I don’t actually think that Cal was overrated, but I figured GITC would give us a 500 word comment using his SS tier system, thus making us all forget about the best SS on the Yankees/planet.
(Quote)
Derek Jeter is the greatest SS on the Yankees/planet. no drugs needed.
(Quote)
better than scooter?
(Quote)
and Jeter is only the 3rd best SS in New York. (only because David Wright is yet to play SS, then Jeter will be 4th.)
(Quote)
Jeter’s only PED is Cialis, plus his STD blocker.
(Quote)
Florida v. Kentucky tonight.
Go Gators.
(Quote)
You dont run a complete 35 Minute interview on an hour long show unless there is some financial issues at stake.
(Quote)
A-Rod paid for his legal team with the money he received from ESPN.
(Quote)
How much did S&F offer A-Rod for an interview?
(Quote)
30 bajillion dollars.
(Quote)
@ John,
I offered to sleep with his ex-wife. We didn’t get a reponse.
(Quote)
ewwww
(Quote)
btw, new post.
(Quote)
From reading you guys I am not quite sure yet. Does February suck as a sports month?
