The Morning After: February 10, 2009

By sparty

tmalogoThis is just another reason as to why sports suck in February.  The headlines always take precedence over the actual games.   The biggest stories have been Michael Phelps smoking pot, Joe Torre’s book, and A-Rod admitting to past use of PEDs.

Alex Rodríguez has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs.  Now let’s move on.

Michigan State plays at Michigan tonight (still no Raymar Morgan).   Besides Pitt and the FNCUH, the best teams in the Big East are Villanova and Marquette and they match-up tonight.  Did you even know that it was Duke/UNC week?  Biggest rivalry in sports my ass.

Something tells me that Dana Stubblefield would have been a bigger story this past weekend had another certain story not broke.  The NFL continues to skate by.  Hmmm, sounds like an idea for a post.

Pacman, we hardly knew ya.

The Giants said goodbye to Sam Madison, Reuban Droughns and Sammy Knight.  I toally forgot that Knight was even on the team.  Madison had a couple nice years with the team, and took on the role as tutor to Corey Webster and Aaron Ross. Oh, and David Carr gets to continue to be Eli’s backup.

The Lions made some cuts of their own, getting rid of Leigh Bodden and Dwight Smith.  There is a lot more fat to cut in Detroit.

The Ravens want to keep Ray Lewis around, and they are willing to pay him.

Julius Peppers will probably be playing somewhere else next season. Is it me, or is Peppers an extremely overrated player?

That’s your NFL news in February.

I hate running, so I ask, why?

The Minnesota Timberwovles are not a good team, and now they just lost the only good thing that they had going.  Al Jefferson is out for the remainder of the year with an ACL tear.  That deal with Boston just keeps looking better and better.

The Pistons were one of the best 4th quarter teams for years.  Not so much anymore.  Allen Iverson is driving me nuts.  When he was putting  up 30-35 ppg in Philly, that probably kept the fans at bay.  I can’t stand his crappy play.

Keep it classy, Orlando.

Ichiro, the pitcher?

Manny still doesn’t have a contract, and he is running out of options.

Tom Crean is not going to put up with anything in Indiana.  He suspended Devan Dumes indefinitely for his elbow flinging in East Lansing.

Judgment Day is coming.  Cue the Terminator theme song.

TWTWCBB makes a return later today, so stay tuned for the next installment of the Big Ten > Big East > ACC.
