The Odds-On Favorite – Playoff Picks; Divisional Round

By Big D

Yep, I’m a dolt. Rather than spending a couple of hours last night after Florida cemented their status as the college football team of the decade researching and writing up the picks post, I chose to play Tetris on Facebook, take a shower and goto bed early. Therefore, I have to give an abbreviated picks post this afternoon, five hours late. I’m a friggin’ genius…

Opening the 2009 postseason with a 1-3 thud kind of puts a ding in the ol’ self confidence. But I’m back on the horse today, trying to bring you as many winners as I can in a short timeframe. Let’s go.

TITANS (-3) over Ravens: I’m kind of surprised at myself here. I had talked myself into the Ravens all week long, how the Titans limped into the postseason, how they hadn’t played a good all around game in over a month, etc etc etc. But then I thought – it’s only a 3-point line. It’s a home field advantage. And the Titans defense should be at full strength against a rookie QB. I’m relatively confident laying the points.

Cardinals (+10) over PANTHERS: At 10-points, you might as well just tack the game onto the wall and throw a dart at it. There aren’t many scenarios where I can see myself giving up ten points in a postseason game. Period. I don’t care if I have to rely on Arizona to cover a spread or not.

GIANTS (-4) over Eagles: God, this game sucks as a New Englander. Even a transplanted one. I hate New York. I hate Philly. But for sheer monetary purposes, let’s just say that the Giants are a far superior team, and should easily cover by a TD or more.

Chargers (+6) over STEELERS: I completely underestimated the emotion of the San Diego crowd in last week’s pick, A.K.A. “The stupidest line on the board”. Not to mention underestimating the ability of San Diego’s punter to drop a football inside the five like it was a smart bomb. Throw in the fact that just two weeks ago Big Ben was carted off the field like he was Daryl Stingley and I’m not too confident about the Steelers’ ability to cover in this one.

RECAP: TITANS / Cardinals / GIANTS / Chargers

Agree with all except SD. I think that Pitt’s Defense will be too much for Sproles and company.

    Agree withTitans and Giants.
However I think Carolina covers. It might be close at the half but by the end of the game, the will win by 2 TDs or better.
Also, Steelers are the superior team. No LT and Sproles is an amazing 5′6″ back but after getting smacked around all day by the Pitt D, Charger will be chucking it up and the Blitz will take out Rivers. Big Ben will do what he needs to do and Pitt will pound the ball and I don’t see SD shutting them down all game.
