Jay Glazer is always right, and he is now reporting that Eric Mangini will no longer be the coach of the New York Jets, following their disappointing finish to the 2008 season.
As soon as talk a began of a possible Jets/WCNYFG Super Bowl, the Jets went into a tailspin, losing 4 of their last 5 games, including their final two and missing the playoffs altogether.

Unless we get Cowher, bad move.
(Quote)
Breaking News: Urban Meyer to coach the Jets…leaves for NY and officially accepts position tomorrow.
(Quote)
Chris Petersen to the Jets!
(Quote)
marinelli was fired, but don’t think that warrants a post.
(Quote)
I don’t like Mangini, but firing is a bit far.
(Quote)
Zorn is next.
(Quote)
no way he is gonna lose out on cowher to anyone.
(Quote)
who is “he”, sparty?
(Quote)
Snyder.
(Quote)
gotcha…and I agree.
(Quote)
Snyder should hire Spags away from the Giants.
(Quote)
he tried, and Spags said no.
(Quote)
When the owner is pissed, unlike us fans, he gets to act. Mangini was never as good as people thought he was when Mangenius went 10-6 his first year. He also isn’t as bad.
Favre reportedly didn’t like being yelled at in front of the tea for his bad throws and picks. Well tough shit. My coach in high school yelled at people when they made bad plays and we didn’t get paid millions. Favre did make some terrible throws during the streak. The only win in the last 5 games was that last second win against Buffalo.
I thought Herm Edwards was a terrible coach. Mangini – simply OK, but not terrible. He will get better. The question is who will replace him.
Like my fellow Jet fan, PatPhish said, unless they get Cowher – bad move. Like in all sports, it only pays to get rid of someone if you have someone better.
And I don’t want to see Favre next year.
(Quote)
Hmmmm…a smart man Spags is.
(Quote)
Jet fans wouldn’t want Spags?
(Quote)
True.
In the beginning, when the Skins hired Zorn as the offensive coordinator, the idea was to get a good coach. When they couldn’t, the idea changed to Zorn being the head coach as a stopgap until Cowher was ready this off-season. Then Zorn had the Redskins at 6-2 and Snyder thought he might have found a great coach and he wouldn’t even have to pay him 5 million a year or anything like that. Then the Skins went 1-5 over their next 6 and he was going to get fired. Then they beat the Eagles and he saved his job. Then they lost to the 49ers and now his job is in trouble. Now the Jets are firing Mangini and the Skins would have competition for Cowher. Interesting to see if Snyder pulls the trigger.
(Quote)
How about Little Shottenheimer as coach?
Well, in the AFC, I will root for Miami, then Indy I guess. I still root for the Giants in the NFC. It would be great to see them repeat.
(Quote)
get used to Favre, cycledan. he’s got enough ludes to get him through 2011.
(Quote)
Mangenius was a defensive coordinator with no head coaching experience, so doesn’t that mean the Jets have to hire someone with experience and/or an offensive coach now?…so wouldn’t that rule out Spags?
(Quote)
you are a Jets fan, cycledan, you cannot ever root for the Phins.
(Quote)
I answered my own question…Holmgren to the Jets. Book it.
(Quote)
nah, Holmgren taking the year off.
(Quote)
Little Schott? AYFKM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s who they should have fired.
Fuck the Dolphins. And the Pats.
(Quote)
I hear you Sparty but I hate the Pats. I don’t really hate the Phins like I used to. Also, I have always like Parcells with the Giants and Jets. Also, most Jets fans like me still like Pennington. So it is not that hard to root for the Dolphins. I actually wanted the Jets to lose yesterday after the Ravens eliminated the Jets just so the Dolphins would be in and the Pats would be out. Call me bitter if you want but that was all I had left.

miz-he is gonna take Cowher’s chair.
(Quote)
who was doing that exact thing this season.
(Quote)
Bizarre NFL season this year.
Also they made a big deal about Pennington coming back and beating the Jets to make the playoffs. How about McNabb beating TO to knock them out.
3 coaches done this morning. Just waiting for Wade Phillips to be fired.
(Quote)
Oh, Pathphish, yes I was kidding about Shottenheimer.
(Quote)
Jerry Jones, already a jackass, will look even worse if he fires Wade Phillips. he left himself wiggle room when he said his coaching staff is in place (meaning somebody on the staff could replace him). but yesterday said he won’t fire a coach after just 2 seasons.
(Quote)
Jerry Jones = well-dressed and face-lifted Al Davis
$10 says Wade Phillips resigns.
(Quote)
I agree with Miz. Phillips conveniently “resigns.”
(Quote)
the one thing that keeps sticking in my mind about romo was Parcells telling him to not become a celebrity QB.
Parcells is so right about that. Brady didn’t become one until after he won. Namath was one, but that was more of the NY image anyway, but he did win.
(Quote)
Brady might be out all of next year and then signing Cassel becomes a priority for the Pats.
(Quote)
Now that I look at it I really don’t think it’s at all unfair that New England is out. The only team they maybe should replace is San Diego but wait, San Diego had to play the tough NFC South and went 1-3 while New England had an easy 4-0 vs NFC West. Plus San Diego got screwed a game by Hochuli. Flip schedules and maybe San Diego is 12-4 and New England is 8-8.
(Quote)
and San Diego had to face Bernard Pollard twice
(Quote)
I do not think Phillips will resign but he might “Retire”
(Quote)
+4 sae
(Quote)
As a Patriots fan I am disappointed that they missed the playoffs but I am also realistic that considering all the players they lost during the season that they had a good season even if they missed the playoffs.
11-5 after losing Brady, Harrison, Thomas, Bruschi, Maroney as well as having only 3 of the 11 players that made up their opening day starting D play all 16 games is pretty good.

Somewhere, Belichick is smiling, watching a video.

he didn’t have as much video to watch this year….

He’s probably watching milfhunter so he can fine tone his wife stealing moves.

Knight, Yeah but San Deigo did have 6 of thier games against the weak AFC West.

I would like to make an announcement:
I love the fact that out of the Aaron Rogers, Brett Favre, Chad Pennington triangle, the worst of the three this season was clearly Favre.
Rogers – 28TD 13INT 4038yds passing, 200yds 4TD 3fum rushing
Favre – 22TD 22INT 3472yds passing, 43yds 1TD 2fum rushing
Pennington – 19TD 7INT 3653yds passing, 62yds 1 TD 1fum rushing
The really pathetic part is that he didn’t even pass for the most yards.
(Quote)
gitc takes over captain obvious from cmfost for the day.
(Quote)
but if you figure Favre meant well and add an extra 25 yards per interception, he would’ve had 4132 yards
(Quote)
It looks like there is going to be a Head Coach Shuffle within the next month or so. Walrus to Jets, Mangini to Detroit, couple fossils un-retire…
(Quote)
sae is getting all his hits in today.
(Quote)
sparty, making up for being under the weather since xmas eve
(Quote)
But sparty, Phins have Fins, so they can use “Fins”
(Quote)
so everyone hates Favre?
(Quote)
Jen- i can call the jets, the wings?
(Quote)
Everyone outside of Bristol, CT.
(Quote)
Favre wore me out his last 6 years in GB, even last season didn’t do much to change it. Don’t know how people can treat him like he won 3 or 4 super bowls.
(Quote)
sae-he has Desmond Howard to thank for his Super Bowl.
(Quote)
wait…Favre didn’t win 3 or 4 Super Bowls?
(Quote)
miz, he won “or”.
(Quote)
sparty, you are a Giants fan, so I bet you call them worse than that! ; )
(Quote)
i don’t hate the Jets. Contrary to popular opinion, there is not much hate between the fan bases.
(Quote)
Cowher tells Browns no; Pioli to be interviewed for GM
(Quote)
Cowher would never ruin his legacy by going to the Browns. He would become the biggest villain ever in Pitt.
(Quote)
Don’t be shocked to see the Browns come hard after Urban Meyer. Trust me on that one.
(Quote)
Why would Meyer leave what he has in FLA? It’s akin to Carroll leaving USC.
(Quote)
because the browns last big time college coach hire worked out so well….
(Quote)
You think they organization remembers that?
(Quote)
Yup, as another NYer, I am more of a Jets fan but still root for the Giants. Baseball there is more of a split but I will still root for the Mets in the playoffs when the Yanks are out. Now hockey fans of the Islanders and Rangers hate each other.
(Quote)
fuck the Mets.
(Quote)
So Bellichick is watching a video? He probably snuck a spycam into Brady’s room and is watching him do Giselle.
(Quote)
patphish had a good idea. Mooch in Cleveland. He got a bum deal in Detroit. They stuck him with Joey Harrington and Matt Millen.
(Quote)
Danantonio to Cleveland.
(Quote)
Rogers was awesome actually. He was third in the league in total TDs behind only Brees and Rivers. He had less turnovers than Brees and only one more turnover than Rivers.
In a related note, Rivers had the best TD/TO ratio and didn’t make the Pro Bowl… because of Favre.
I hate Favre.
(Quote)
trey, he is going to be our Joe Pa.
(Quote)
sparty, you are a crabass today!! Are you still sick?
(Quote)
Rogers was awesome in the quarters 1-3. the 4th, not so much.
(Quote)
jen, you don’t like Mooch? He’s a good coach.
(Quote)
Sparty, so you’re saying Rodgers is emulating Brett Favre perfectly?
(Quote)
You just like Mooch because he’s bff with Izzo.
(Quote)
kwsn,
no Favre used to suck early so he could ‘miraculously’ lead the team back in the 4th
(Quote)
kwsn- he is? never knew that. neato.
(Quote)
maybe, sae, but a Brett Favre specialty is the killer interception with 3 or fewer minutes left down by 1 score.
(Quote)
I never said I didn’t like any coaches. Heck, I even like the walrus we had, but he needed a firecracker in his arse or something…he slept on the sidelines!
(Quote)
If Pioli goes to Cleveland than Josh mcDaniels will be their next coach
(Quote)
kwsn,
would be interesting to see a breakdown of how many killer interceptions vs. ‘comebacks’ because he sucked early. i’m guessing it’d be close
