The Weekend That Was College Football: 12/22

Nothing like a nice weekend of pre-Christmas bowls. These are always the special games, the ones that teams from around the country dream of playing in.

I’m not gonna lie, I think I nailed one bowl all weekend (Thank you USF), firmly making me the worst prognosticator of bowl predictions.

For those keeping track at home the score is: Miz 1 – Trey 0 in the famed Rocky Top v. Shorty-short Jorts wager. No worries here though; there are still 10 fabulous games before moving 0n.

And so it began:

The Eaglebank Bowl – Navy v. Wake Forest – It’s a rematch from an early September game. While the Navy running game was on it, the late TD by Wake Forest really took the game from ever having any shot of working in their favor. Simply if Navy has to throw a pass, they’re probably going to lose, and they did. MVP? Riley Skinner who was 11 for 11 passing.

The New Mexico Bowl – Fresno State v. Colorado State – Is Fresno State the most overrated BCS killer ever? Probably. It seems like they’re always predicted to go 12-0 and then end up 7-6…Gartell Johnson burned them for 285 yards rushing and 90 yards receiving. MVP!

The MagicJack St. Petersburg Bowl – Memphis v. USF – Zany As Seen on TV product Sponsor! Baseball Stadium! A Couple Thousand Fans! Rob Stone! This game had it all, except for the part about being entertaining. USF won big, least I called this one right.

Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl – Arizona v. BYU – This was a bad game for BYU to lose. I didn’t get to see it though. Still…bad.

The R & L Carriers New Orleans Bowl – Troy v. Southern Miss – This game used to be the first of the bowl season. It once hosted a team with a record under .500. The Sunday Night Football game was too good to spend much time on this, but a guy named Barefoot won the game.

As for the S&F ESPN Bowl Mania Challenge, to say the good people of Sparty and Friends suck at picking bowl winners would be an understatement. Two people are above .500, Sparty and John. Congrats.
