The Morning After: December 19, 2008

By sparty

We have reached the final day of the last full work week of 2008. I am so looking forward to closing up shop for a few days next week. We are staying put here in Jersey, and we have no family heading over for the holidays. Just mysef, the Mrs. and lil’ Sparty. It is going to be 4 days in a row of aahh.

I have shared my exploits of how much I love coffee on more than one occasion. I really love it when I can just roll out of bed, brew a fresh pot of Starbucks Italian Roast, and enjoy every last drop while sitting down on my couch with not a concern to be anywhere at all. I love that cup of coffee. That is the second best cup of coffee one could have. The first? That would be that same cup with a cigarette, but since I kicked that habit about 5 years ago, I don’t get to do that anymore. But that was one hell of a cup of coffee.

Let’s start by taking a look at the best 1-2 in baseball:

NY Post

Look at that, almost as quickly as ESPN was reporting a deal was near,  the Sox are saying they are out of the running.

K-Rod, K-Rod, K-Rod…if you are going to talk trash, make sure your team has something to back it up with.

One of the best closers of the 1980’s, Dave Smith, passed away at the age of 53.

This is one guy I would be willing to take a flier on. Rocco Baldelli finally seems healthy, and has always had the talent to be a star.

Since we are in the middle of FA season, let’s take a look at the 1o Worst Ever.

Mats Sundin decided to go play for Vancouver, becacuse he wanted to be with a team that couldn’t win a championship. Yeah, I don’t get it either.

Basketball and a chart. Miz is lovin’ it.

Nobody in Detroit can figure out what is going on with Michael Curry’s rotations. Even Michael Curry can’t. Relax. He is new and the roster is different than it has been in 6 years. Iverson has sat a 4th quarter, Stuckey has sat in the 4th, and so has Prince. It was Rip’s turn.

The sad story of Billey Joe Johnson that we brought to you the other day is gaining more attention now that the NAACP has conducted their own investigation.

Anthony A. Dorsett was not nearly as great a football player as his uncle, and not nearly the man.

Bowl season is upon us, and here are some of the games that you should watch, that you may not be thinking of following. You will also see the worst fantasy football loss evAr.

The Love of Sports gives us the NFL All-Surprise Team of 2008.

Poor Joe Horn, someone at Deadspin should have called the waaaaambulance for him.

So it was drugs that undid the Hoosier season. Thanks for being a 10 month late whistle blower, Mr. Gordon.

GITC late edit: Since Sparty has to get to bed, I can understand that this wasn’t in here. Brandon Roy scored 52 points last night as the Blazers dropped the Suns 124-119 in Portland. In his last five games, Roy is averaging 36.4 points per game. The Blazers are good. It’s a little weird.

After today, work will be dead, but not there yet. Hope to see ya around…
