So, I’ve been kind of a bad sports blogger lately, which of course assumes I was ever a good one…anyway, I haven’t watched a lot of sports lately. I missed the Heisman presentation Saturday evening, and didn’t watch a minute of NFL football Sunday until the second half of the Sunday Night Football extravaganza. Then I missed almost the entire Monday Night Football game and the entire first half of Tuesday’s Tennessee v. Marquette game.
After all this sports viewing ineptitude of the past several days, it’s going to be hard to top Trey’s TMA from yesterday. But, I promise you one thing, this will be the best TMA that Sparty and Friends will post today. Enjoy.
We’re in a large transition period in several of the major sports right now: the college football regular season has ended and bowls are set to start in a deuce, the NFL regular season is winding down with some teams securing playoff spots and others fighting for their playoff lives, the MLB Hot Stove league has been kindof bland but some big names are still hanging out there (Man Ram, Texeira, etc), and the two major levels of basketball are really starting to get into the meat of their respective season. So, it makes it a little tough to focus on one sport or topic. Awwwww, poor pitiful blogger…
Let’s see what we can get into.
Well, this is the first time I’ve heard of anything about drug use among college athletes! OK, maybe I’m being a little facetious; but it is the first time I’ve heard anyone say anything openly about drug use being a major factor in the internal relationship rifts so soon. That’s what former Hoosier Eric Gordon claims happened at Indiana last season though. Of course, though, none of the current players on the Hoosiers roster were part of the problem. This is quite a revelation! Usually, I don’t expect this kind of candor to pop up until someone’s career is over, not as soon as the following year!
You know, it’s refreshing knowing sometimes seeing that high profile sports personalities can have fun and not take themselves too seriously. Remember when Bruce Pearl…ummmmm…let his hair down? Tom Izzo knows how to have a little fun too and lets Pat Forde in on it.
Some of you guys were/are big into some of the old fake wrestling and I’m sure have kept up with the personal emotional problems of former wrestlers and their actions such as the suicides and murders. A lot of it has been blamed on roid rage or the long term effects of performance enhancers. Could the same type of thing happen in the MMA arena of life? Apparently MMA fighter Justin Levens and his wife were found murdered in an apparent murder-suicide. As far as I can find, investigators haven’t released much info or which party was the shooter.
I make no attempt to pretend that I’m a baseball expert or even an afficianado. Regardless, it does seem that the Hot Stove league has been a little uninteresting this year. Maybe it’ll change when Man Ram talk heats up…get it? Hot stove…heats up? Anyway , while you’re wrapping your brain around that brilliant joke, read about Rafael Rurcal padding his wallet for at least three more years with the Dodgers.
Obligatory daily Cowboys linky and update*: Remember when Pacman might miss the rest of the season, and potentially the rest of his career, due to the herniated discs as a result of his neck injury? Maybe it’s not that bad afterall…Pacman is practicing and will likely play against the Ravens this weekend. Seems as if all the turmoil surrounding the Cowboys between injuries and the Romo/Witten/Owens drama is settling down and they’re getting their focus back on football. Somebody tell Ed Werder to take a nap.
Whew! I was getting a little worried about the economy negatively affecting the greatest sports circuit in ‘Merica. Despite temporary shutdowns of manufacturing plants for cost-cutting, Chrysler seems to be adamant in keeping their Dodge contracts with NASCAR teams. The financial turmoil in the US auto industry can potentially have a profound affect on turning left so, regardless of your feelings about racing, this will be an interesting dynamic to watch play out.
At what point do we consider Reggie Bush a bust? At what point does he at least get labeled as fragile? Dude gets hurt, A LOT, and just hasn’t had the splash that most were hoping for expecting. Now, it’s official that he’s out for the season.
Keep our TWTWCFB bowl previews close-by because bowl season begins in t-minus two days. While you’re waiting though, and in the down time between re-reading our previews for the 4th and 5th times, here’s a little tidbit about each game you can mentally much on. I love trivia!
Stick around today and read some S&F words about sports and anything else and don’t forget to exercise your rights to type your own words in the comments section.

Team Ram-Rod… get it? get it? natsfan74(Quote)
I believe te last time our fair schools met on the court, we won. (2002)
Izzo has openly stated he’s scared of the Gators. GatorTrey(Quote)
really, trey?

Shit.
And I was at that game. How does a 2 seed fuck that game up? gatortrey(Quote)
then some idiot told Lorbek he could go first round after just one year. Izzo was pissed. sparty(Quote)
That was probably the same guy who told Matt Walsh he was a 1st rounder after his junior season. gatortrey(Quote)
had he stayed, Davis would have had a true front court mate his last two years. Marcus Taylor left the year before, then Lorbek, Izzo then said he would fight his players in the parking lot if they tried to leave early. sparty(Quote)
Who the hell has Duke played at home during their home court winning streak?
It seems like they play every big non conference game at a neutral site. gatortrey(Quote)
16 and counting…best team ever Boston Nozzel(Quote)
96 Bulls would kill these Celtics. sparty(Quote)
…only if Pierce was on the Bulls and MJ was on the Celtics. john(Quote)
resort to comedy in the first retort. thanks for the confirmation about the greatness of that Bulls team. sparty(Quote)
And the 86 Celtics would Kill the 96 Bulls cmfost(Quote)
john’s kidding, right? mizerle06(Quote)
Miz pulls a Shanoff and does not watch sports but at least he put out a interesting post. cmfost(Quote)
now THAT’S comedy!! mizerle06(Quote)
@cmfost – thanks? mizerle06(Quote)
7 Days until a preview of the NBA Finals – Celtics-Lakers the Christmas Day Tradition Returns cmfost(Quote)
You’re Welcome cmfost(Quote)
Me kidding about Pierce? I would never do such a crazy thing. john(Quote)
I am beginning to think the goals of this Celtics team is 73-9 cmfost(Quote)
Actually the NBA Finals preview will be the next time the Celtics and Lebrons play. john(Quote)
Didn’t even think about that before….how bout them big apples meow? rekcalsa(Quote)
mark your calendars! 7 days till cm gets his heart torn out by Kobe and Neckbeard… mizerle06(Quote)
lmao…the 96 Bulls are the best ever. MJ, the discussion is over. sparty(Quote)
ummmm…wouldn’t that be an Eastern Conference Finals preview? or, am i thick-headed and missing the jokey joke? mizerle06(Quote)
You’re kind of missing the jokey joke. Whoever wins the East, will win the Finals.
Pierces > Lebrons > Kobes john(Quote)
i think he is saying the winner of that will be the eventual NBA champ. sparty(Quote)
for some reason, a lot of people have a hard time coming to grips with that concept. I think it’s because people want the best ever to be “now” instead of having to reminisc about a team from the last millenium. mizerle06(Quote)
@john – therefore, I’m a bit thickheaded this morning. I think i realized that right after I submitted. mizerle06(Quote)
I do not think so Sparty. There are several teams in the Discussion including the 86 Celtics. cmfost(Quote)
I must have missed where all the Celtics fans lit up before saying they were better than the 96-97 Bulls… GatorTrey(Quote)
You do realize the ‘86 Celtics had 3 Hall of Fame Starters with a 4th Hall of Famer coming off the bench and another player who should be a Hall of Famer as the starting PG. cmfost(Quote)
The Magic with a healthy roster > Celtics GatorTrey(Quote)
Come on CMFost, It’s not like the Bulls didn’t have three Hall of Famers… GatorTrey(Quote)
MJ is worth three HOF’ers just by himself. 96 Bulls > All mizerle06(Quote)
cmfost, your homerism is showing quite well. the Bulls had hall of famers, oh and one of them happened to be the greatest player ever. sparty(Quote)
i heard MJ missed a shot once, of course he was blind folded and shot it backwards from outside the arena. sparty(Quote)
Not to mention one of the deepest benches ever… GatorTrey(Quote)
that was disproved, sparty, the part about missing the shot. mizerle06(Quote)
Bird – McHale – Parrish – The Greatest Starting Front Court in the History of the Game – enough Said!!! cmfost(Quote)
MJ never missed a shot…I’ve even seen him shoot across the state, thru the warehouse window, off the rafters, nothing but net…dude was awesome. rekcalsa(Quote)
I think the 86 Celtics and Some of the 80’s Lakers Teams would beat the 96 Bulls. cmfost(Quote)
MJ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Greatest Starting Front Court in the History of the Game sparty(Quote)
‘96 Bulls were the best evAr…no way to debate it…and I’m not even much of a roundball fan, but I know this is true. rekcalsa(Quote)
rek, don’t try to pigeonhole MJ as just “awesome.” we all know he was more than that. mizerle06(Quote)
/Copycat’d marcomarco(Quote)
Really Jordan Never Missed a shot – Based on his Career Stats he missed more than Half the shots he took. cmfost(Quote)
MJ was so good he decided to give the other teams a break while he tried out baseball. rekcalsa(Quote)
mr. fost is on a roll this morning with the funny-ness! mizerle06(Quote)
Sorry miz…didn’t mean it. rekcalsa(Quote)
Based on Jordan vs. Bird on NES, Jordan schooled Bird every time…couldn’t even hang with him…pretty ridiculous how badly matched up they were. rekcalsa(Quote)
cmfost- you are not seriously going to try and knock the greatness of his Airness? sparty(Quote)
it’s ok, rek. you’re lucky a lightning bolt didn’t hit you though. mizerle06(Quote)
mize–It tried to get me…I dodged it with my uber quickness. rekcalsa(Quote)
Can I make a CMFostlike argument?
I think Luc Longley would school Parrish. gatortrey(Quote)
Jordan vs. Bird > Double Dribble john(Quote)
cmfost logic- the 1973 New York Knicks had 5 HOFers in their starting lineup, therefore they are the greatest team ever.. sparty(Quote)
No John, Double Dribble kicks ass.
Dooouba Driiiiba…doo doo doo doooo do do…(hmmms National Anthem) gatortrey(Quote)
i was partial to Bulls-Blazers, but that Tom Chambers dunk always pissed me off. Took about 5 seconds for him to complete it and all you could do was watch sae(Quote)
Do we come full circle by mentioning that Parrish played with Michael for one season on the Bulls? gatortrey(Quote)
@ sae,
That and anyone with a single digit had a zero in front of it. gatortrey(Quote)
Parrish wanted to know what it was like to be part of the greatest basketball dynasty ever. 90s bulls > 60s Celtics > 80s Lakers > 80s Celtics sparty(Quote)
I’s put the 00’s lakers in front of the 80s celtics, just to pissoff the masses. gatortrey(Quote)
Now that’s just crazy talk. john(Quote)
honestly, Shaq and Kobe were pretty awesome during that run. I mean seriously, Parrish trying to guard the Diesel? Anyone trying to guard Kobe? sparty(Quote)
and Bird on Rick Fox…no way! gatortrey(Quote)
It looks like Ole Miss might be looking for a basketball coach.
Andy Kennedy was arrested this morning on assault charges for getting in to it with a cabbie. He “punched victim with a closed fist while shouting racial slurs.”
Ole Miss plays Louisville tonight in the Big East/SEC Challenge.
I suppose Bob Huggins taught his former assistant everything he knows. graddawg(Quote)
Sparty 6 titles in 7 Years is not > 8 Titles in a Row and 10 in 11 Years.
Not team in Sports has ever matched what the 60’s Celtics Did.
Is should be in terms of Dynastys
60s Celtics . 90s bulls > 80s Lakers > 80s Celtics cmfost(Quote)
11 years? the 60s had 11 years? that was a fucked up decade. sparty(Quote)
But MJ tried out baseball in those two years that the Bulls didn’t win the finals…so 90s Bulls are still better. rekcalsa(Quote)
sparty–It was the 60s…things were definitely fucked up back then. rekcalsa(Quote)
On Wikipedia, someone added the OKC Thunder on the list of NBA Champs with 0 wins and last title win in 2094…what a joker. rekcalsa(Quote)
they had to add an extra year to the 60’s to call it a full decade because everybody was so high that not enough history was made in the 10 regular years. mizerle06(Quote)
But MJ
tried out baseballwas suspended for gambling in those two years that the Bulls didn’t win the finals…so 90s Bulls are still better./conspiracy theory fix’d sae(Quote)
sae–Eh…I like to think of it as him being so dominant that he wanted to give the other teams a break and see if he could do well in another sport…stop sullying his rep. rekcalsa(Quote)

Yeah, and those Yankees did nothing in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, early 60s, late 70s, the 90s…. sparty(Quote)
