It is always troubling to hear stories of young athletes (and any young person for that matter) that lose their lives in tragic accidents. It is more disturbing when the details surrounding the event make even less sense.
Such is the case of the highly recruited running back, Billey Joe Johnson. Johnson had a bright future ahead, being offered scholarships from several prominent programs within the SEC and the rest of college football. He was considered one of the top backs in the country.
All that was gone in an instant when Billy Joe shot and killed himself during what would “appear” to be a routine traffic stop:
“The deputy was sitting in his patrol vehicle … when he heard a gunshot and saw the victim laying on the ground by the driver’s side door of the vehicle that Johnson was driving. A shotgun was lying on the victim,” according to a statement from the George County Sheriff’s Department.”
I have never have heard of such an incident like this. It makes absolutely zero sense, and it seems like the police are giving out very sketchy details of the incident.

Is it that easy to conceal a shotgun that the cop didn’t see it but then the kid was able to quickly get it and kill himself? That doesn’t seem right…I could see if it were a handgun, but a shotgun? Something is fishy here…

Didn’t this happen last week?

WEEI briefly mentioned it early last week. I haven’t seen the story on Sportscenter, but it seems like an Outside the Lines episode waiting to happen.

the story is weird. I think i read about it in the commercial appeal last week. the story gave some suspicious facts concerning the stop including the police car was one of the few used by that department without a dashcam. and there were no other witnesses around at the time.
shady mcshadester if you ask me…

Miz,
Amazingly the Police cars that pull my clients over in a major population based city like Orlando are one of the few cars that don’t have dashcams too. Every time.
I’ll keep outta this one.

that does not surprise me about the dashcams, not one bit.
