Let me start out by thanking Mikeychx for his work this past weekend. Our west coast contributor has gone the extra mile to keep you all up to date with the latest information and ongoings in the world of sports. Well done, Mikey.
Fetch, if you are reading this. There are so many holes to your argument from last night. Tennessee did not have a good season. That was due to the ineptitude on offense, and offense only. They had the #4 overall defense in FCS this year. South Carolina was ranked #11. Then we have Ole Miss, they finished with the #16 overall defense (oh and BTW, they are ranked 25th in the BCS). Vanderbilt was ranked 22nd overall in defense Even Kentucky wasn’t that bad, at #37. played only two teams this year better than 50 in overall defense. Thanks for your using conjecture!
As you may have read in last nights comments, they picked the wrong guy for the Heisman Award. Mark May, who has a vote, indicated the other night on college football live that many people sent in their votes before the last couple weeks of the season. Had those people waited, they probably would have given Tebow even more 1st place votes (which he was the front runner in anyway). I was not a Tebow supporter for the longest time, but he was robbed.
I am in kinda a hurry this morning so here we go.
Christmas came early for Tennessee, but that wasn’t a good thing.
In the game of the day, Georgetown beat Memphis.
Xavier finally beat someone that matters.
TO and Witten are not exchanging gifts this year. All this attention actually scares me for tonight’s game.
That’s all you get. I gots stuff to do…

One thing that I heard on ESPN last night was the fact that you just have to look at how bad the SEC was this year. The answer is: really bad.
You can say that Big XII offenses are ranked very high because Big XII defenses are so bad. So why can’t you say the opposite about SEC defenses. Here it is…
SEC DEFENSES ARE RANKED HIGHLY BECAUSE SEC OFFENSES ARE TERRIBLE
There, I said it. Here’s the bottom line: Tebow is a great QB. But he is the only great QB in the SEC. Sure, Matt Stafford is alright, I guess. But after Snead it really gets pathetic. I’ll list the SEC QB’s QB rankings just to give you the picture…
Tebow (FL) 5, Stafford (UGA) 15, Snead (Miss) 27, Wilson (ALA) 67, Dick (ARK) 71, Lee (LSU) 82, Smelley (SC) 85, Lee (MissSt) 92, Hartline (UK) 101, Crompton (Tenn) 104, Burns (AUB) 106, Adams (VAN) 107
So when people cite stats about how good SEC defenses are, just remember this; if I average the QBs in the SEC, do you know who the QB is?
Casey Dick.

Ok, just stayed tuned for the NT game…because the opposite argument will be proven to be incorrect. The offenses are bad because of the defense. This has been the case for years. You will see this when Oklahoma loses a in a BCS to a team with a superior defense.

The award is supposed to go to the best player. Tebow is the best player. Don’t care where he plays. He is a BETTER player than Bradford. If it was about stats and defenses played and blah, blah, blah then Harrell got screwed. And Colt last year. And Klingler. The list goes on and on.

Florida’s defense is OK. I’m saying that the rest of the defenses in the SEC just aren’t that good.
You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t buy “SEC offenses are bad because SEC defenses are good” when you certainly won’t buy “BIG XII defenses are bad because Big XII offenses are good”.
Not only that, but (unfairly, I suppose) we can all name offensive players. I named the SEC quarterbacks and, let’s face it, they suck. Is it possible that the Big XII defenses are just getting manhandled by some of the best offenses college football has ever seen?
I’d say that it isn’t that likely. But, it is just as likely, or more likely than that argument about SEC offenses. We know that they suck, we don’t know anything about individuals on the Big XII defenses.

Did you just play the “I ran out of logical arguments” card? It’s a little early for that, Sparty.

ugh-how is it illogical? I was stating that defenses determine an outcome more than an offense. That is all I was saying.
Example: Texas played Oklahoma in a neutral site…both great offenses. Texas beat Oklahoma because they had a better defense.
Defense > Offense

Alabama and Florida’s defenses were on equal footing. Both could not get it going like they had wanted. Florida had been lighting people up prior to that game. But Bama was shutting them down. The difference in the game? oh, the best player in college football: Tebow, Tim.
(Quote)
And the difference in the Red River shootout? Oh, the best player in the Big XII: McCoy, Colt.

I’m confused. I thought you were supposed to be arguing against me.
In your first example, you had a game where both teams have equal (or close) offenses and one had a better defense. And the better defense won? Shocking.
I would counter that with an example of a game where teams had equal defenses and one team had a better offense and, surprise, the offense won the game.
Out of the air here, let’s see, what would I pick…? Oh! How about Alabama vs. Florida!
Wait, you already tried to use that despite the fact that it argues my point not yours…

OK, no one will probably read this, since there is a newer post, but I may save this data for later….
In non-conference games, the SEC allowed 14.9 points per game. But, in non-conference games against BCS opponents, the SEC allowed 22.31 points per game (290 points in 13 games). That would be good enough to rank 43rd in the nation in scoring defense — which would be tied with Notre Dame.
For the record, Mississippi State, in back to back weeks, allowed 3 points to Auburn, then 38 to Georgia Tech. That’s the same GT team that put 45 on Georgia. Tennessee, one of the 4 SEC teams to allow under 200 points this season, allowed 27 to UCLA, which is their season high against FBS opponents. Wake Forest averaged 26.5 points per game in the SEC, and only 20 points per game for the full season.
SEC defenses rank highly because SEC offenses suck. Texas put 52 on an SEC defense.
