That was an enjoyable two days off from TMA. Mikey did a fine job while I slept an extra hour each morning, and I thank him for it.
The reason I asked someone to help out an extra morning was because I was fighting yet another cold. I was never sick before I had a kid. I always had an extremely strong immune system, but it is no longer what it once was. Seems like the extra rest helped quite a bit.
Also took the time to write a couple different posts. Now that all the sports are underway, no more preview posts until the NFL playoffs. Those have been filling up our slots the last couple months, and I actually hate them.
I know Mikey and I have both touched on NYC Mayor, Mike Bloomberg’s opinion in regards to Plaxico Burress. Now he is making a joke out the incident by taking cheap shots at Burress and the organization. I can assure you that when the Champs go down the Canyon of Heroes for the second year in a row in February, the head of Big Apple will only be invited to speak so that all fans of the Champs can boo the shit out him. They will drown him out so that he will not be able to hear himself talk.
I am beginning to believe that Antonio Pierce is going to be ok in all of this with the law, and will only be spoken to sternly by the Commish.
The NFLPA is stepping up to support the 5 players suspended by the NFL for using a banned substance.
The New York Jets Shaun Ellis had a bad weekend too. He was busted for pot, speeding, and driving without insurance. A trifecta!
The Yankees are starting to ramp up their free agency activity. Cashman sat down with Boras, CC is next.
A-Rod is turning his back on the country that he has lived in his entire life. He plans to play for the Dominican Republic in the WBC.
Too Much WCNYFG and Yankee stuff? That’s what happens when I am gracious and write a nice post about the Sawx. Deal with it.
If you are a former Michigan State WR, are you just destined for trouble? First Mark Ingram, then Plaxico Burress, now Charles Rogers.
One thing has always been true since the Pistons acquired Rasheed Wallace in 2004. They go, as he goes.
Ok whiz kid, let’s see how good you are as a GM. Go to the Lions.
As commenter Johnny reported here yesterday, the Mullet is back at the WWL.
Miz insisted that I show you how horrible Tennessee Volunteer football players really are.
Don’t worry buddy, Texas Tech Red Raiders aren’t much better.
This is simply for Clown, Texas defeats UCLA.
If you have not seen Iron Man, do not click on this link. Contains spoiler. I thought the movie was one of the most well done comic book movies ever, and I am pumped up about the following, um stuff.
We are so much like the Roman Empire, we are so eventually screwed.
Miz mentioned during Happy Hour yesterday about how he almost lost his arm the first time he used a shotgun. This girl almost lost her eye.
If soccer had stuff like this happen every game, maybe I would watch more.

It seems like every year the Pioli to the Lions story comes up. I think he will leave the Pats at some point, but he’s too smart to go to Detroit.
(Quote)
uh oh…a video site that I can actually watch at work that has people doing stupid stuff and getting hurt for my amusement? I’m never getting anything done now.

How the hell does an NFL player drive without insurance!?!
(Quote)
How the hell does an NFL player (insert arbitrary stupid act here)!?!

miz, i watched the soccer one about 20 times. cracked me up just as much each time.

Seau returns.
(Quote)
did you see any of the ones where people got “one-punched” in a fight? those were cracking me up.
the new wooden spoon prank busted me up pretty good too.

really bringing seau back is going to help? are they bringing Andre Tippett back while they’re at it?
(Quote)
I heard they would try to get Tom Brady to return for the 2009 season. it’s a stretch, but with the arrogance of the Patriots, you never know.

really, you are telling me you wouldn’t want to see Brady back next year?

(Quote)
sorry to threadjack…ok, not really because nobody is saying anything, but I was reading about Tuberville’s “resignation” and came across these quotes:
I’m looking forward to eventually hearing the truth. why would a school, especially in tough economic times, decide to pay a coach their full buyout when the were not in any way contractually obligated because he resigned? if they were truly doing it because they thought it was “the right thing to do” I doubt they would give him the entire amount and most likely give a percentage as a nice parting gift.
(Quote)
that’s a great post.

Why would I want Brady back next season, when we could trade him and keep Cassel?

In other hockey news after a 4 assist game Crosby has closed the scoring lead gap to 2 points.
Actually what Gino and Sid are doing this year is a little more impressive than what they did last year. They really don’t have a winger anywhere near their talent level to play with on the roster so they’re doing it by themselves
This team would be scary good if Hossa decided to take the years, and the money and the shot at the cup rather than just the shot at a cup
(Quote)
Hossa took the sure thing.
(Quote)
Bruins > Red Wings > Penguins
(Quote)
It’s so cute the way New Englanders pretend the Bruins exist now like they used to pretend the Patriots existed before 2001.
(Quote)
The pens winning a cup within the next 5 or 6 years is pretty damn close to a sure thing too though.
Hell this is a pretty damned good (if inconsitant) team now and that’s with injuries to the starting goalie, no wingers to play with the centers and the top two offensive defensmen out. Gonchar being hurt has really affected this team and to be playing as well as they are is impressive
What Hossa did was he wanted to win a cup this year and then cash in next
(Quote)
I remember when Chicago fans were saying that about the Blackhawks in 1991.
(Quote)
I thought the Bruins were the NHL’s new expansion franchise.
(Quote)
we all know what will happen. Boston will make the playoffs, they will play Montreal, and then they will lose. This is how it works.
(Quote)
Difference though is that the Pens actually have good mangement and at the moment the two best players in the game which are still getting better. They really weren’t supposed to be as good as they were last year and yet they were within a frantic finish to forcing a game 7. Though I do admit for much of the series Detroit was a much better team
(Quote)
…and after Montreal beats the Boston, they will play San Jose for the Cup.
(Quote)
Detroit is still the better team.

Yea, it’s Big East…yea, it’s Rutgers…but after the 1-5 start with the losses to Navy & UNC and the only win coming by way of Morgan State, I was really losing hope for another winning season…thankfully the team started to come alive and rattle off the 6 straight with easy pretty much…our record totally could’ve been way better if this version of the team showed up earlier in the season.

Here’s a nice stat line: Teel finished the game 21-of-26 passing for 447 yards and seven touchdowns. Teel finished with more touchdown passes (7) than incompletions (6).
And Kenny Britt should be good in the NFL.
(Quote)
I don’t get your math.
(Quote)
Rutgers = the inverse of Vandy:
Rutgers started 1-5 and finished 6-0.
Vandy started 5-0 and finished 1-6.
it’s not exact, but it’s approximate. and Rutgers’ feat is more impressive than Vandy’s. the fans and team should be happy with the second half of the season effort shown by Rutgers along with the impending bowl invitation. Vandy’s fans should be happy about the bowl invitation only because they haven’t been to one in eleventy-threve years, not because of the way they achieved it.

why so angry at Bloomberg for making a simple joke. I think people are a little too sensitive and looking too hard to play the underdog, disrespected card.
Also, am I the only one who thinks Avery’s sloppy seconds comment was funny? Suspending hm for that is nuts unless of course they are just suspending him for being an overall douche bag.
(Quote)
I don’t know many people in NJ that care for CFB unless they went to school there and only follow that team…no one in my family really could give a hoot….I know a couple at work, but not many.
(Quote)
I enjoyed it too…suspension totally not necessary…maybe a little fine because they find it inappropriate and need to let him know, but no suspension.
(Quote)
Tuns out that the Steelers beating the Pats was teh right result for the Jets last week. At this point, they won’t get the covetted #2 seed unless they play two games better than Pitt in the remaing 4 so they better count on matching the Patriots win for win and try and get the 3 seed.
Of course if Dallas beats Pitt, Jets could be tied with Pitt with 3 remaining but they lose the tiebreak.
(Quote)
I think most people found Avery’s comment funny. I think the suspension is a case of the straw that broke the camel’s back (and it being completely premeditated).
(Quote)
Avery got suspended because he’s an overall douche bag. Everyone in the NHL hates him (including his own team).
(Quote)
cycledan- he shouldn’t be making jokes after he already has been extremely opinionated on how this case should unfold. extremely unprofessional.
(Quote)
I think his original comment was fine. His apology when he clearly doesn’t mean it deserves a suspension though. He should have held a press conference to tell everyone to piss off and quit being so sensitive to everything.
(Quote)
I think that athletes should be bigger douchebags. Much more entertaining, like a Heel in the WWE.
