The Morning After: September 14, 2008

By sparty

USC decapitated tOSU last night in at the LA Coliseum, 35-3. The score might have not been as huge, but Beanie Wells would not be enough to stop the freight train that was the Trojans. (LA Times)

Patphish covered my Game of the Week last night.  See, he has finally realized that ND will never really be elite again.  All he can do is get excited about wins over teams that are rivals, even if they are not good themselves.  The Spartans welcome the Irish next week.

Ugh!  Two of my Upset Alerts fell just short yesterday.  Purdue blew a 20-3 lead to Oregon, and Mississippi St lost 3-2 to Auburn.  You are reading that score correctly, 3-2.  Here are those scores, along with the other Top 25 action.

BTW, remember when I posted a quote from an FAU player that said they would score a lot of points against the Michigan State Spartans?  Since when was 0 a lot of points? The weather kicked ass in this game.

Did anyone catch Michael Phelps on SNL last night?  I did not, here is the first video on Hulu.

Pigskin madness continues today with a full slate of games.  The Pats return to the Meadowlands,  without Tom Brady, and without a camera.

Hope all our loyal readers from TX remained safe as Hurricane Ike blew through.  The storm has forced the Ravens-Texans game to be PPD until Nov. 9 due to roof damage at Reliant Stadium. (SI.com)

Could Dick Enberg be more of a douche?  (Quote)

This is coming from a Chiefs fan, but the Chargers got screwed.  (Quote)

What a crazy SD/DEN game…Chargers totally should’ve won that game since the Broncos got that blown call at the goal line and were able to keep the ball. Great game to watch (high scoring and lots of yards), but I was rooting for SD to come away with the win.  (Quote)

Oh, and Darren Sproles is one fast mofo.  (Quote)

I thought Hoculi should give the Chargers the call for f-ing up the fumble call.

Is Enberg the one who said “Broncos win” after the 2 point, when there were still 24 seconds on the clock? And neither announcer seemed to notice the 2 point play was the exact same play they ran for the TD.  (Quote)

Favorite call of the day was Phil Simms after Favre threw that pick: “That was not a good decision by Brett Favre.”

The announcers union might fine him for not kissing Favre’s feet though.  (Quote)

  • rekcalsa says:

Well I guess it’s in the rule books for that call, but it’s not like there was anyone else around the ball and he went out of bounds right after he picked up the fumble. It’s not like if he hadn’t blown the whistle anything would’ve happened different. What a crock.  (Quote)

Ed Hoculi is a roided up douchebag.

Not just to miss the initial call, but to be so stubborn as to come back out and say “The call should have been a fumble”. Then give the ball back to the Broncos.

I know for a fact in a game last year Hoculi made a ruling in a game where there was a clear fumble recovery by the defense and he awarded them the ball. What a fucking joke.

And yes, I’m mostly just bitter because I had money on the game in a five-team parlay, and that call cost me a $2500 payout. Bastard.  (Quote)

Finally a score in the Browns/Steelers game. Almost thought it was going to be like Auburn/Miss St. And, yea, I know it’s only just over halfway thru the 2nd quarter.  (Quote)

  • rekcalsa says:

Sorry for the missed parlay bigd…especially on bullshit like that. And the broken replay system in the beginning of the game preventing the reversed call there too.  (Quote)

waiting for the highlights of the Chargers/Broncos game. All i have been reading is about the screw job. I was out.

    BTW: Cassel > Favre.  (Quote)

  • bigd29x says:

If I wasn’t so terrified that he’d put me in some type of sleeper hold/headlock with those ginormous pipes, I’d find his house and demand he pay me the $2500 personally. Not like I have anything better to do with my time.  (Quote)

Anyone just see Derek Anderson get the ball snapped into his nuts when he wasn’t looking?? Now that’s funny.  (Quote)

Too bad we didn’t have Bryant Gumbel to call that one. Might have been an all-timer.  (Quote)
