Boy I am getting giddy for this weekend and the start of College Football. Spencer wrote that great review of the Big Ten and I started to jones for something more. Watch the run of the year at about the 1:05 mark.
How well do you know college football. Find out with this pop-quiz. (Bleacher Report)
Awful Announcing has a small snippet from the Barack Obama/Stu Scott interview featured on Sports Center yesterday. The one Q&A that caught our eye:
Scott: “If the Cubs and the White Sox both make it to the World Series?
Obama: “I would be going.”
Scott: “Who would you root for?
Obama: “Oh, that’s easy. White Sox. I’m not one of these fair weather fans. You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren’t watching the game. It’s not serious. White Sox, that’s baseball. Southside.”
First, “beautiful people?” Um no. I am sure this one is a Cubs fan too.
Second of all, “It’s not serious?” Congrats sir, you just loss half the vote in Chicago. Well done.
How could the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, make a movie better? Entertainment Weekly shows us.
Remember when we would debate as kids about who was the better 80s icon. Montana or Gretzky? Well that battle is continuing with their kids. The sons of two of the greatest athletes on the 1980s are battling for the starting QB job on their varsity football team. Nick Montana and Trevor Gretzky will fighting for the right to throw the ball to Trey Smith (son of actor Will Smith). You cannot make this shit up. (CO-ED Magazine)
The new #1 Men’s Tennis Player in the World, got off to a slow start but managed to win his opening round match at the US Open against Germany’s Bjorn Phau, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4). Nadal is trying to attempt to become just the 4th man ever to win 3 Grand Slam tournaments in a row (Pete Sampras, Rod Laver, and Roger Federer). (Yahoo Sports)
This would definitely make the US Open much more entertaining. (The Sports Hernia Blog)
Our boy Ralph Vacchiano is on the Strahan case. Nobody, and I mean nobody will break this case if he does sign back on with the Champs before him (except for Jay Glazer, of course). (The Blue Screen)
In another example of just how violent the sport of football is, Texans 26-year-old WR Harry Williams has been informed by Doctors that he probably will never play football again due to the spinal injury he suffered in a preseason game against Dallas.
Unless he is on crutches the day of any game, Brady is playing. (Boston.com)
So your alma mater give you an honorary doctorate, pretty cool huh? So you might think of repaying them by giving a really nice acceptance speach, praising the institution, kissing a little ass, right? Not Phil Jackson. (USA Today)
The NCAA has only had one player ever win the Heisman Trophy in back to back years. We think Chris “Beanie” Wells will stop Tim Tebow from winning it again. Here are several other candidates prior to the start of the campaign. Where is Javon Ringer? Did you see the video above? (CBS Sports)
Cmfost, did you make this sign for a sports bar in Pittsburgh? (Hugging Harold Reynolds)

If anyone has seen the email forward with the PowerPoint showing the difference between Cubs fans and Red Sox fans you would agree that Cubs fans are definitely beautiful. Then again, your average Red Sox fan would make just about anyone look good.

The weekend needs to get here in a hurry. This week is going to be agonizing.

So Stu Scott can interview Obama, but Simmons can’t? I’m sure that makes the SG happy.

Congrats to Grady Sizemore for hitting his 30th HR last night and joining the 30-30 club.

We’re going to have to catch the Gator game at a bar because of the regional broadcast.

Has anyone heard this story about the 9 Year Old Little league Pitcher who was banned by the league because he is to good?
What the hell is wrong with this country? Seriously, When we were growing up nobody was ever banned because they were to good. The wussification of America continues.
(Quote)
cmfost you have a link?
(Quote)
@sparty – I hope MSU fares better at Cal than UT did last year. that was quite embarassing. by the way, are the naked hippies still in the trees defacating on anyone that gets too close?

From the article: “Facing that kind of speed” is frightening for beginning players, Noble said.
They’re gonna have to face a fast pitcher some day…might as well work on their hand-eye coordination now.

Of course, Time Warner STILL isn’t running The Big 10 Network in my area, so I won’t be watching the Buckeyes. I’ll be happy to watch whomever is on ABC and ESPN though.
The only reason I like the end of summer is that FOOTBALL BEGINS!
CONGRATS GRADY SIZEMORE! He is having a kick ass year. And the Tribe are winners of 8 straight. All they need is another big win streak, and they are back in it.
{silence}
MMMWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
(Quote)
sparty–Yea, I haven’t seen any videos of it yet, only the damn pic. Haven’t searched for the video though. Maybe tonight when I get home I’ll see if I can find one and post it.

Anyone see teh new SEC deal? Incredible.
(Quote)
Well it wasn’t much of a preview. Skipped most of the teams just so it could get to bashing Michigan.

Seems like NBC is waging a strong campaign to keep Olympics video to itself. I will try to link to a site with a video of the incident I found yesterday. Hope this works (used the smart commenter sample)…

are there a lot of indians’ fans here or is there just a lot of sarcasm?
regardless…grady is better than heroin and almost as good as eating watermelon.
and it’d be fantastic to see an OSU player beat out tebow and keep the 2 heisman list in house.
(Quote)
thanks knightro…I hope it stays posted there until I can get home to watch it.
(Quote)
reckalsa – no prob…quality is not the best, but all I could find so far.
(Quote)
spencer, there are a few Indian fans here. they have laid low for most of the season, for obvioius reasons.
(Quote)
sparty…yea, well know we’re beating ass, so get ready for the onslaught. FUCK AND YES.
/that was fun
//hey, clifford is pitching tonight…9 in a row?
(Quote)
I liked the Indians, until they sold out to Arizona and decided to hold Spring Training there.
Sellouts. Nothing will beat what they had in Winter Haven.
(Quote)
Lee has amazed me this year. no question about being the Cy young winner. would have to collapse the last month.
(Quote)
gatortrey…i agree. i remember going down there with my dad for a couple spring trainings…i loved it there. zona blows.
sparty…if lee doesn’t win the Cy because voters penalize him for being on a crappy team, im going to assassinate each voter individually in the most gruesome fashion imagineable. then im going to watch youtubes of terrelle pryor and feel better.
(Quote)
It was a sad day for Florida, because Winter Haven and Vero Beach were the last true Spring Training locations.
(Quote)
Penalizing a Cy Young candidate for being on a bad team is absurd. It makes it even more impressive if a pitcher is racking up wins on a shitty team.

Kevin Duckworth died, btw. My lasting memory of him will always be Bill Laimbeer completely mentally taking him out of the 1990 NBA finals.

Halle-freakin-lujah! Thanks for the news, sparty. You made my day.

Oh to answer spencer:
I am an Indians fan. I am also a smartass though. ; )
(Quote)
Jen…all indians fans are smart-asses, im not surprised.
this website needs more brutus.

Now here is a guy that all OSU fans can relate to.
(Quote)
ok – two things got me off the snide to finally create an account here at word press.
first – the steeler sign should have IC Light on sale – not bud light – but I still love it!!
second – the 9 year old that isn’t allowed to pitch – complete BS. there are notes in an article that the league has a darling team that is sponsoered by a company with league administrators working for it and they are upset because the kid didn’t play for their team. the whole thing is a complete joke and makes me absolutely irate. no wonder kids grow up and can’t make it in the real world. they are taught at 9 that if life gets tough, you can just quit!
(Quote)
that’s what got you to create an account? thanks!
(Quote)
Actually Sean the Kid did not quit he got banned by the league. What is really sad is a couple of teams were so afraid of losing that they forfeited. It is really pathetic. What they should do is replace the entire board that made this decision.
Kids these days need to learn how to win and how to lose, since when it comes to there adult life they will definitely lose more than they win.
(Quote)
So many possibilities. I don’t even know where to start.
(Quote)
There are some OSU fans missing from last year. Maybe they’ll surface after this weekend!
(Quote)
ok, wow. I hope Shamrock takes Kimbo to school.

see now, that’s an MMA fight I will watch.
(Quote)
“I liked the Indians, until they sold out to Arizona and decided to hold Spring Training there.”
The Tribe held Spring Training in Arizona for about 50 years before they sold out and moved to Florida in the 90s
(Quote)
I wanna see Shamrock take Kimbo to the ground and see how Kimbo holds up…if at all. Shamrock may not be in his prime anymore, but he should be able to put up a good fight still.
And Gina Carano is supposed to fight too.

Oh I know, they screwed Homestead, FL something good in 1993.

I still cant get over that a 9 year old can throw 40. Heck I am 26 and I dont even think I could throw 40!
By the way, I am one of those “Clevelanders” and Buckeye lovers, however I am not in Gopher Territory.
Question, is it wrong to root for a class organization as the Twins with the Tribe is out of contention. I am finding myself rooting for them like crazy.
(Quote)
advanced labor day weekend.
i cannot believe that 9-yr old could pitch like that. scouts better take notice.
and yes, the SG got screwed by the Stu.
