The Morning After: August 26, 2008

By sparty

Boy I am getting giddy for this weekend and the start of College Football.  Spencer wrote that great review of the Big Ten and I started to jones for something more.   Watch the run of the year at about the 1:05 mark.

How well do you know college football.  Find out with this pop-quiz. (Bleacher Report)

Awful Announcing has a small snippet from the Barack Obama/Stu Scott interview featured on Sports Center yesterday.  The one Q&A that caught our eye:

Scott: “If the Cubs and the White Sox both make it to the World Series?
Obama: “I would be going.”
Scott: “Who would you root for?
Obama: “Oh, that’s easy. White Sox. I’m not one of these fair weather fans. You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren’t watching the game. It’s not serious. White Sox, that’s baseball. Southside.”

First, beautiful people?Um no.  I am sure this one is a Cubs fan too.

Second of all, “It’s not serious?” Congrats sir, you just loss half the vote in Chicago.  Well done.

How could the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, make a movie better?  Entertainment Weekly shows us.

Remember when we would debate as kids about who was the better 80s icon.  Montana or Gretzky?  Well that battle is continuing with their kids.  The sons of two of the greatest athletes on the 1980s are battling for the starting QB job on their varsity football team. Nick Montana and Trevor Gretzky will fighting for the right to throw the ball to Trey Smith (son of actor Will Smith).  You cannot make this shit up. (CO-ED Magazine)

More Usain hilarity

The new #1 Men’s Tennis Player in the World, got off to a slow start but managed to win his opening round match at the US Open against Germany’s Bjorn Phau, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4).  Nadal is trying to attempt to become just the 4th man ever to win 3 Grand Slam tournaments in a row (Pete Sampras, Rod Laver, and Roger Federer). (Yahoo Sports)

This would definitely make the US Open much more entertaining. (The Sports Hernia Blog)

Our boy Ralph Vacchiano is on the Strahan case.  Nobody, and I mean nobody will break this case if he does sign back on with the Champs before him (except for Jay Glazer, of course). (The Blue Screen)

In another example of just how violent the sport of football is, Texans 26-year-old WR Harry Williams has been informed by Doctors that he probably will never play football again due to the spinal injury he suffered in a preseason game against Dallas.

Unless he is on crutches the day of any game, Brady is playing. (Boston.com)

So your alma mater give you an honorary doctorate, pretty cool huh?  So you might think of repaying them by giving a really nice acceptance speach, praising the institution, kissing a little ass, right?  Not Phil Jackson. (USA Today)

The NCAA has only had one player ever win the Heisman Trophy in back to back years.  We think Chris “Beanie” Wells will stop Tim Tebow from winning it again.  Here are several other candidates prior to the start of the campaign.  Where is Javon Ringer? Did you see the video above? (CBS Sports)

Cmfost, did you make this sign for a sports bar in Pittsburgh? (Hugging Harold Reynolds)

Looking for the baseball coverage?  Here ya go. (MLB.com)
