The Morning After: August 23, 2008

By sparty

It was great week here at Sparty and Friends.  We the last couple days we saw some great posts.  Big D helped us with our obsession for gambling.  Our newest member, Mizerle06, introduced himself with his unique blend of humor and sports knowledge.  We also had a hysterical football preview from our buddy, the Nug.  Cycledan provided us with excellent live blog coverage of the Redeem Team’s rout of Argentina.  Cmfost managed to be funny on more than a couple occasions.  Marcomarco managed to bail out of his one responsibility for the week, and GITC is still MIA.  We concluded with a visit from the Jerks, who have been instrumental in the growth of this site.  Good things are happening here as we continue to grow.

Let’s just take a quick peak here on Saturday, I am off to hit the links.

The Redeem Team had a very up and down game against Argentina, but still managed to win by 20 pts over the team that embarrassed them in Athens.  Carmelo Anthony led the American scorers with 21, despite shooting 3-14 from the floor.  Though Anthony struggled from the floor, he was perfect from the foul line, 13-13.   Chris Bosh registered a double double with 11 pts and 10 boards.  The US started hot with a 30 pt 1st quarter while holding Argentina to 11.  They let Argentina somewhat back in it, but eventually pulled away to put themselves back in the gold medal game. American Bryan Clay won the gold medal in the decathalon, becoming the first US participant since Dan O’Brien (of Dan and Dave fame) to win gold in the event. (SI.com)

So what do you do when you win 8 gold medals in one Olympic games?  Well, first you “suck face” with a hot Australian swimmer.  Then you write a book. (NY Post, SI.com)

Here are your scores from MLB. (MLB.com)

Wrapping the morning up with Jason Whitlock.  Always good  for a morning reading if you missed it. (Fox Sports)

Tee time is in about an hour, so see ya!
