The Morning After: August 20, 2008

By sparty

Sorry to inform you that I have come down with something fierce, and I am struggling to keep my head up and even type this.  Therefore we will not have a roundup of yesterdays happenings in the sports world. Feel free to carry on here anyway.

    Hey Sparty,

Are you sick or was the play of Damon last night just have you not feeling well this morning.  (Quote)

  • pv845 says:

And CMFost always with the positive remarks to start the day.  (Quote)

    Sparty – get well soon.

It’s too bad that people can’t see the cmfost comments as funny any more, because I was thinking the exact same thing. 2 fly balls? 1 game? 0 wins? how ridiculous….

But, even worse, are the Washington Nationals. I’m going to have to start wearing a bag over my head at their games. Nationals have lost 11 straight. Yankees are 11 games out of first. Coincidence?

At least I still have the Cubs. That Rich Harden fellow is decent, I guess.

Yahoo sports has done a good job of not spoiling the olympic results — letting you click the link if you must know, but otherwise hiding the actual results in the article title. ESPN.com, however, blasts the actual results right on the page, spoiling any chance we have of watching something in suspense. Do you think this is because ABC tried to outbid NBC and couldn’t? The WWL is trying to wreck NBC, and in turn hurting everyone who wants to at least pretend sports are live. Again, espn has gone from reporting the news to making the news….. after all, we all know that Walter Johnson is the greatest Senator/ Twin of all time now, even though he pitched 80 years ago.  (Quote)

Mike Brown has a soft spot for players who get arrested again and again and again and again…

Bengals re-sign Chris Henry to a two year deal  (Quote)

Yahoo’sFourth Place Medal blog has actually been one of my favorite reads during the Olympics.

Thanks to them I now know who Leryn Franco is.  (Quote)

Bunch of Day Quil in the system right now, Flying High! A little jittery. Probably shouldn’t have had coffee too.

that was a good dig by cmfost. I read about Damon this morning, I was in bed around 9 last night. Had I actually seen it I probably would have bowed out today as well. That is pathetic. that may have been the final nail in the coffin for the Yanks.

John seems to be nailing the linking now!

I will have an NFL related post up soon, had it done last night before I couldn’t sit up right anymore.

i know some use the links here for there run around in the morning opposed to ESPN, Fox Sports and Yahoo. We should be back tomorrow no problemo.

Holy crap this day quil has me going a 100 MPH.  (Quote)

Sparty~I just read your “Be a Wise Commenter” section. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hope you feel better soon…summer colds suck.

Go Tribe. They finally looked decent against the Royals.

Brady Quinn…yum, yum. (As long as he doesn’t speak. He kind of sounds like he’s dumber than he really is.)

    Is Mike Brown nuts!?  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

thanks jen, thought it would be helpful. i had it bookmarked for awhile until i memorized it all.

    new post.  (Quote)

  • pv845 says:

I know that the olympics talk has died down after the phenomenon that was Phelps, but is anyone else as excited as I am for the 200m dash finals? I think Bolt could break the WR and possibly 19 seconds. That would be amazing.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

pv845, when is that scheduled?  (Quote)

  • cmfost says:

Did anyone watch the World Series of Poker coverage last night? If you did what did you think about Scottie Nguyen behavior? To me I lost a lot of respect for someone who is supposed to be one of the best and most respected in the game.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

    nevermind  (Quote)

  • cmfost says:

Sparty it will probably happen soon like during this hour.  (Quote)

  • cmfost says:

PV and all do you want to know the results of the 200M?  (Quote)

  • pv845 says:

I think it is supposed to be tonight, but I don’t know where to find the exact time. The race actually should already be over. I haven’t seen the results yet.  (Quote)

  • cmfost says:

I have seen the results but I will not spoil it for you unless you want to know.  (Quote)

  • pv845 says:

Just saw it on the front page of ESPN. I won’t say it in case people want to be surprised. Thanks CM.  (Quote)

  • sparty says:

i have been using SI a lot more recently. ESPN’s homepage has become such a clusterfuck.  (Quote)

  • john says:

What did Scottie Nguyen do?  (Quote)

  • bostonnozzel says:

Will Leitch First article on WEEI posted today…  (Quote)

  • bigd29x says:

I have a good Scotty Nguyen story for you CM related to this post from back in early July. He actually is that pompus when you play with him, drunk or not.

I’ve been on the wrong end of it once, and watched it a couple times. It’s hysterical, as long as you’re not the one being berated.  (Quote)

  • jpmanahan says:

i think i am the only one who can enjoy not being spoiled given the timezone is same here as in beijing.  (Quote)
